“Every veteran’s job and commitment you can think of he’s out volunteering for,” said Berge.

Many know him as Dick Denny, he’s a Kasson native that’s been volunteering for decades helping local veterans in Dodge County.

“He’s just a good hearted person, he believes that every veteran coming home should get the respect that they deserve,” added Berge.

Berge says Denny spends much of his time and money supporting the American Legion and Bell of Honor.

“I don’t know I just like to help people out. I don’t expect pay for it, I can do things for free,” said Denny.

‘Wreaths Across America’ is one of many events he’s helped make possible. Denny has also been the head of the color guard in Kasson for nearly four decades.

“When you say the American Legion people will say, ‘oh yeah Dick Denny belongs to that,’” said Berge.

Denny is also a Vietnam era veteran, he says the $600 will go towards new jackets for veterans at the Kasson American Legion.

“I think we need to take care of our veterans, there’s too many people that are shunning them. I think we need to take care of them and help them out in any way we can. Somebody has to do it and I don’t mind it,” added Denny.
