August 12, 2017 08:01 PM

(ABC 6 News) -- It was a beautiful day to hit the lakes in Albert Lea. On Saturday hundreds of people were able to do that for free.

The Albert Lea Lakes Foundation held its annual free float along the Shell Rock River giving kids and adults alike the chance to try out a kayak, canoe, or paddleboard for themselves.

Organizers say they hope the event get more people out on the water or otherwise enjoying the lakes, "Albert Lea's lakes are really the heart of our identity, and we fully as a lakes foundation believe that they belong to the community, and we would hope that all residents feel like they can come down and enjoy the lake in many different ways."

Last year the group had more than 300 people attending and they're hoping this year to reach almost 450.
