(ABC 6 News) -- A Rochester man was arrested after authorities said he admitted to taking property from a house in Oronoco Township.
Around 10:46 a.m. on Sunday, October 22, the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office responded to a burglary at a vacant home on the 2900 block of 100 St. NW in Oronoco Township. The home’s owner was driving by the property when he told law enforcement he saw a man leaving the home with a green military bag that belonged to him. The man said the suspect dropped the bag and took off into a cornfield. A young woman was also seen leaving the property, according to several others who also witnessed what happened.
Captain Scott Behrns with the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office said the Minnesota State Patrol helped assist in the search for the suspects and Rochester’s Police drone was also used.
Later that day, a woman called law enforcement after she saw someone jump over a median on Highway 52. Deputies responded to an area near Tilly’s Restaurant in Oronoco. They were able to apprehend 37-year-old Robert Barnhart of Rochester. Captain Behrns said he admitted to taking property from the house. Barnhart is charged with felony 2nd-degree burglary and felony theft.
Captain Behrns said Barnhart would not identify the female suspect. Authorities are still searching for her.
