Olmsted County Sheriff's Office Warning of Potential Scam

(ABC 6 News) -- The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office says they received a report about a potential phone scam in the area, Wednesday.

Authorities say a random citizen was contacted by a man claiming to ‘Deputy Mark Palmer’ from the Warrants Division of the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office.  They add ‘Palmer’ accused the citizen of missing jury duty and said they would have to pay a fine, otherwise, they would be sent to jail. ‘Deputy Palmer’ also said that the citizen would have to pay the alleged fines with gift cards, according to the Sheriff's Office.


The Sheriff's Office says there is no one with the name of ‘Deputy Mark Palmer’ who works in their Warrants Division. They believe this is a potential phone scam for the area.

The number of the potential scammer is 507-320-4942. Authorities say they got the number via caller ID.

The Sheriff's offices says no money was lost or contributed by the targeted citizen before the incident was reported.
