October 06, 2017 11:14 PM

(ABC 6 News) -- The new judge for Minnesota's Third Judicial District was sworn in on Friday.

Judge Lisa Hayne was appointed by Gov. Mark Dayton to replace retiring judge Debra Jacobson in Olmsted County.  Jacobson is retiring.

Hayne has worked as a lawyer for 24 years, as a prosecutor and defense attorney.  She said her goal on the bench is the same as anyone overseeing courts and criminal justice.

"That we continue with our cases that we get cases resolved quickly yet thoroughly, that people of Olmsted County are heard and understanding that every case that comes before me is going to be the most important case for those litigants," Hayne said.

Her first day is Monday, but she will spend two weeks with other judges in the district learning the ins and outs of the job.
