Julie Oss, an Orthopedic Nurse at Mayo Clinic, said that every year this week is a special one for her and her colleagues.

"It makes nurses you know feel honored, it’s a great profession to go into and I’m thankful every day that I did," said Oss.

National Nurses week is not only a celebration of nurses everywhere but it's also designed to raise awareness about the important roles nurses play in the medical field.

Faith Roberts, who has been a nurse for 41 years, was the keynote speaker at Wednesday's event and stressed to her fellow nurses the importance of purpose and remembering why they went into their field.

"I think it’s time for our profession to take a moment to take a breath and just realize we work incredibly hard in many different roles and settings [...] and take a week out of the year to recognize what it is we do and the impact we have on patients and their families," said Roberts.
