"It’s helping the cause because it's making people more aware that we are not giving up, we are who we are and nothing is going to change us,” said Evjen.

The day is marked with many different celebrations nationwide, including rallies and parades, but it’s more than celebrating. It gives people a chance to reflect on showing the world who they really are.

Austin Price has been dating Evjen for almost a year. He said for him coming out wasn’t easy.

"Eventually I did and I came out to dad and he told me no matter what I am going to love you, you are my son and I broke down right there in front of him," said Price.

Although today is a day to celebrate, coming out can be a difficult time for many, but advocates say people are not alone there is always someone there to help.
