(ABC 6 News) -- A Stewartville man was arrested Saturday after fleeing an Olmsted County Sheriff’s Deputy on a motorcycle.

According to Captain Scott Behrns, a deputy was parked in the Pizza Ranch parking lot at 1580 2nd Ave. NW around 10:15 a.m. on Saturday, July 15, when he noticed a motorcyclist traveling at a high rate of speed on 2nd Ave.  When the motorcyclist noticed the deputy he attempted to brake, said Captain Behrns.  The motorcyclist almost slid, according to the deputy, but regained control and took off.

The deputy turned on the squad vehicle’s emergency lights and began to follow the motorcyclist.  At one point the motorcyclist began driving in the ditch along Highway 63 north, according to Captain Behrns.  The motorcyclist eventually lost control and took off on foot toward a mobile home park.

Captain Behrns said the deputy found a cell phone near the motorcycle tracks, and was also able to figure out who the motorcycle belonged to.  The owner of the motorcycle told the deputy he knew the person who was driving the motorcycle.  The owner later convinced the driver to turn himself into law enforcement, according to Captain Behrns.

23-year-old Keegan Crace of Stewartville was arrested and is charged with felony fleeing a peace officer as well as two misdemeanors.  When asked why he fled the deputy, Crace allegedly told authorities, “I saw the lights and ran like an idiot.”
