Mayo Clinic Denies Lt. Governor's Request to Delay MCHS Consolidation

(ABC 6 News) - Mayo Clinic has denied a request by Minnesota Lt. Governor Tina Smith to delay the planned consolidation of services between Mayo Clinic Health System's Albert Lea and Austin hospitals.

In a statement issued Friday, Mayo Clinic wrote, "To ensure the highest-quality health care, we are moving forward with the optimization plans. We will continue engaging with the community as we move through subsequent phases of the plan."

Smith traveled to Albert Lea on Thursday to meet with leaders from Albert Lea and Freeborn County, members of the Save our Hospitals group and leaders from the Albert Lea hospital.  

Smith said she would like to see a pause in the planned consolidation until a better solution was found.
