Local School District Looks for Options to Provide School Safety During a Mass Shooting

(ABC 6 News)-- ABC 6 continues the conversation of topics revolving around the recent Florida mass shooting.

The conversation opens the floor to discuss how the nation can move forward to prevent another tragedy like what happened in Florida from happening again.

Betsy Singer sat down with Kasson Mantorville Superintendent Mark Matuska to talk about what is next for his district.

Matuska was at a national superintendent conference in Nashville when the events in Florida unfolded.

"It was really somber news," said Matuska. "News like this really shakes you."

With gun control laws being on center stage, legislators and school leaders have discussed if arming teachers would be the right move.

"I know a lot of school districts in Minnesota have some type of weapon to combat those that would come in," said Matuska. "How far that goes and what direction that individual school district will allow within their communities would be different than a lot of places."
