(ABC 6 News) -- A Rochester man tried to escape police in downtown Rochester Saturday morning after allegedly dealing drugs in front of a bar and restaurant.

According to Rochester Police Captain John Sherwin, witnesses report seeing two men in front of Dooley’s Pub on 255 1st Ave. SW around 1:30 a.m., Saturday, July 15, allegedly in possession of drugs and making drug exchanges.  When officers arrived on scene, one of the men was still there.

A small amount of cocaine was found on 22-year-old Matthew Pettus, according to Captain Sherwin.  The officer put Pettus in handcuffs, but Pettus broke free from the officer and took off toward 5th St. SW. 

Pettus was eventually caught and is now charged with 3rd degree drug sales and escaping from custody, both felonies.
