Minnesotans Caught in the Middle of Las Vegas Shooting

October 02, 2017 11:37 PM

(ABC 6 News) - Among the people at the Las Vegas country music fest when the shooting erupted was a Spring Valley native, and now, Los Vegas Police Officer, Meghan Kraut. Kraut was working an overtime shift and found herself in the middle of the horror.

ABC 6 News spoke to Kraut’s mother over the phone.  Janell Kraut was clearly upset her daughter was in the heart of Sunday night’s terror, but Janell Kraut said she was relieved that she is safe and okay following the tragedy.

Among the 500 injured, was a Farmington, Minn. man, Phil Aurich. Aurich's brother was in Las Vegas Monday, and told ABC-affiliate KSTP that was shot in the stomach. He's had one surgery, and will likely have to have another one.

Pam Thein was also texting her son back and forth during the chaos. The first one came in just after midnight; her son texted, "We are so scared mom."

"You just go into 'you're a parent and you want to do what's best for your child,’ whether he's 29 like mine, or whether he's 2, you just go into that mode,” Thein said.

St. Paul Police Chief Todd Axtell was also in Las Vegas, but not at the concert. He posted a photo to Facebook while waiting in line to donate blood to the wounded victims of the attack.

KSTP contributed to this report.
