Kids Take Part in Muddy Albert Lea Fun Run

August 12, 2017 07:56 PM

(ABC 6 News) -- More than 100 area kids got down and dirty at the Kids Mud Fun Run in Albert Lea Saturday morning.

The run, now in its second year, featured a half-mile course filled with obstacles, including army crawls, a hay bale climb, and a tire hop. The main attraction, though, was mud -- and lots of it.

"There's definitely those that know what it's all about and they'll just go for it and really get in there, but especially the younger ones, they don't want to get their feet wet or dirty or you can tell they're a little cautious because I think it's ingrained, 'Don't get dirty, don't get your clothes dirty,' Jenny Davis, the recreation program supervisor with the Albert Lea Parks and Recreation department, said.

But after the kids get dirty, some will throw caution to the wind, she said.

"We do get a lot of kids that will go through it once and come back around again," Davis said. "We had one boy go three [times]."

And with the end of summer on the horizon, Davis said the event was the last hurrah of sorts for outdoor kids' events for the department.
