(ABC 6 News) -  Rochester Heritage Preservation Commission voted 6 to 4 to recommend that the Rochester City Council designate the old Hotel Carlton building as a landmark property Tuesday night.

It’s now a Days Inn, located at the corner of 1st Avenue southwest and Center Street. Back in September, the owner said he felt there was no need to preserve it. However, the property was nominated by an outside third party.

A public hearing, lasting more than two hours, was giving people the chance to voice their opinions and some expressed their support for the building.

“I'm an activist and I'm fully glad to say I am,” Nancy Slocumb said. “This is one of the buildings I think should stay in Rochester."

The Rochester City Council will consider the recommendation for the designation at an upcoming meeting.
