Interchange Area of Hwy 63 and I-90 Could Receive Changes

October 02, 2017 11:26 PM

(ABC 6 News) - The deadly interchange near Highway 63 and Interstate 90 could receive some changes in the next few years.

Members of the Rochester-Olmsted Council of Governments discussed possible changes including new ramp access, acceleration lanes and elimination of the T-stop intersection at Highways 30 and 63.

That is the site of the deadliest drunk driving accident in Minnesota history, where five people were killed more than 8 years ago.

"Anyone who normally travels that exchange knows that it can be a challenge as they're trying to merge traffic,” Rochester-Olmsted Council of Governments member Randy Staver said. “In addition, we know we've had some significant accidents, especially at Highway 30 and Highway 63 so those are really some of the things that are really driving the changes."
If funding is approved, construction is scheduled to start in 2020.
