(ABC 6 News)-- School safety has become a growing concern in the nation. According to Governor Mark Dayton, 21 threats have been made against Minnesota public schools in the recent weeks.

In response to the latest school shooting that happened in Florida, guns debate has been fired up more than usual.

Representative Steve Drazkowski is the co-author of a bill proposal to arm teachers.

"This issue we're talking about is not gun control, but it's about making schools safer," said Drazkowski.

The state capitol has been looking at multiple bills addressing gun control measures and providing school safety.

Governor Mark Dayton unveiled a "safe and secure schools" act on Wednesday that called for $15.9 million dollars for school security and $5 million for mental health programs in schools.
