(ABC 6 NEWS) - Following the recent hurricanes and the Las Vegas attack, some countries are warning their citizens, especially students, about traveling to the U.S.
But, a group of German exchange students studying in Charles City, Iowa this month said they're not concerned and hope more students will take advantage of the opportunity to travel and experience other cultures.
"I think America is a relatively safe country as is Germany, you have things that come up to you in Germany and you have things in America, I mean I can get hit by a car when I step out of my house that can also happen here," said Sebastian Boldt.
The 18 students are accompanied by their teacher Sebastian Bleischwitz, and he said so far neither parents nor students have made any comments about fearing for their safety.
"We think it’s important that if you visit a different country if you want to emerge yourself into a different culture you have to see the good and the bad side of it," said Bleischwitz
Following the Las Vegas attack, each student had a discussion about what to do in case of an emergency, but organizers said that should not stop them from having an experience of a lifetime.
