The company also stated that no employees were injured.

According to the Charles City Fire Department, the malfunction of an electrical wire was the cause of the Zoetis fire in Charles City Monday night.

Charles City fire, the Iowa State Fire Marshal's Office and Zoetis representatives said a wire that was arching due to a malfunction caused a fire to start inside the building.

The fire department said there were around 6,000 chickens in the building at the time of the fire.

A Zoetis representative has estimated the damage around $3,080,000.

Highway 14 west of Charles City was closed for a large fire at a north Iowa business.

The fire occurred at Zoetis, a company that makes medicine for animals.

According to Fire Chief Eric Whipple, the building is used to house chickens and had been built within the last year.  It opened only seven months ago.

Strong winds and the fire's location made it difficult for firefighters.  Whipple said because the building is just outside the city limits, there was a lack of fire hydrants and water to put out the fire.

The Floyd County Sheriff's Office said every fire department in the county was brought in to help.

One firefighter was treated for a minor lower leg injury.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
