December 29, 2017 06:04 PM

(ABC 6 News) -- Since the year is wrapping up, we decided to check in with Destination Medical Center and find out where it's at with current projects happening in Rochester.

The economic development agency says it has lots in store for the future of the city.

Jodi Lehner, a mother of four, says she and her family frequently visit from the cities to stay in Rochester.  but it can be tough finding a place to stay.

She says she is excited to hear what the DMC has in the works.

"If it's like a short notice and we have to come down, it can get a little tough trying to find a place without having to spend three to $400 plus dollars to get a room," said Lehner.

She says they come to Rochester for either sports or visits at Mayo Clinic.

But soon, they’ll have more options to look forward to.

DMC’s executive director, Lisa Clarke, says the agency has four projects going on right now, "One is a hotel. The Titan Hilton Hotel on Broadway. Another is a housing apartment project called the Opus Titan project which is also in the DMC District. And then we have the Alatus project which is a housing apartment complex project by Saint Mary’s. And then, of course, we have our Discovery Square Mortenson project which is the first bioscience life science project."

Terry Spaeth, the assistant city administrator for Rochester says those projects are underway because of funding made possible through the state.

"A lot of the private investment then that's occurred in the last year has helped the city and DMC meet the threshold required under the DMC law for the state funding to start coming in," said Spaeth.

The money will help advance the city's development.

"DMC is progressing very well. We're on plan in terms of growth, development, partnerships. Perhaps even better than we initially thought," said Clarke.

Helga Smars, who works at Mayo Clinic, says the Progress is fulfilling the promise DMC made to the community a few years ago.

"I think it's gonna expand the city and there needs to be accommodations. New hotels and shops. And I think there'll be a lot of growth. It'd be good for the city,” said Smars.

"The medical hospital that's down here is amazing and it's one of the best in the world and to be able to have all of that here is great, it's great,” added Lehner.

The next DMC project, which is already in the works, includes a transportation plan officials hope will be the backbone of the city.
