New UMR Chancellor Plans to Maintain UMR's Innovative Way of Teaching

(ABC 6 News)-- A familiar face in the University of Minnesota Rochester community is moving up to a top position.

The Board of Regents announced Friday Dr. Lori Carrell will be the new chancellor at UMR. Lori has been in the UMR family since August 2014. She held positions as an interim chancellor and vice chancellor before landing her new position.


"Oh, I'm just so delighted," said Lori. "It's really an honor. UMR is a community full of inspiration students and innovative faculty and staff.

UMR has become more prevalent in the Rochester community in the recent years.

Lori said, "UMR was constructed to be different on purpose to make things better in higher education. We are rapidly changing."

The school reached record rate for the first-year class this last fall. 

"We have an enrollment management team watching and planning what we want to ensure what we do is maintaining our innovative way of teaching our students," Lori said."

Dr. Lori Carrell will start her new position on Monday, Feb. 12.
