(ABC 6 News) -- It’s further proof that we can all accomplish more by working together.
“Healing hearts one home at a time, and that's kind of our mission," Gina Grundmeier told us.
It's a project that began as a way to say "thanks".
“We had received 'Best of Mower County' plumber award and were trying to find a way to give back to the community," said T’NG Plumbing’s Gina Grundmeier.
The result is "Pay It Forward".
"It is such an amazing soul food," Gina Grundmeier said.
Nominations are taken from the community, and a makeover is done at the home of the nominee that is selected.
This year, that's Terra Gorman and her family.
"They purchased the house about a year ago, and about five weeks after, Jaxon, the 9-year-old, was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma," Gina Grundmeier explained.
It's a rare form of bone cancer.
"He had a grapefruit-sized tumor at the base of his spine and his pelvis," Gina Grundmeier said.
"He still uses a wheelchair once in a while for stability or when he gets tired or sore," Jaxon’s mom Terra Gorman said.
"The bathroom is being modified in order to suit Jaxon's needs," Gina Grundmeier told us.
"He needs this ... it's not a want, it's a need," said contractor Brendhan Wagner.
"And safety in the bathtub, bars, to give him more privacy in order to bathe more on his own without me worrying about him falling in the tub" Terra Gorman added.
This is the fourth year of "Pay It Forward", and it now involves more than a dozen businesses.
"And it's not just contractors, and that's the beauty of it, I mean everybody's come on board. Whether it be a meal or the Holiday Inn giving them a place to stay," contractor Brendhan Wagner said.
Terra Gorman and her three kids get their first look at the makeover at 5 p.m. Friday.
“The definition of community is coming together and taking care of each other," Brendhan Wagner said.
"Just think of what a great place it would be if everyone had that mentality," added Terra Gorman.
