(ABC 6 news) - A Mower County Sheriff’s Deputy is recovering after his department SUV was struck by a semi-truck in Tuesday’s white-out conditions.

Mower County Sheriff Terese Amazi says 59-year-old Deputy James Lamecker was sitting in the SUV alongside I-90 near Dexter around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Amazi said Lamecker was directing traffic out of the right lane into the left lane of eastbound I-90 when the right front of an oncoming semi-truck struck the rear of the squad car. The impact swung the SUV in a circle.

Lamecker was wearing his seat belt at the time. He was taken to Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin, where he was treated for bumps and bruises and released.

He’s been with the Sheriff’s Department for nearly 6 years, after retiring from the Austin Police Department.

Sheriff Amazi says she thinks the department’s SUV is a total loss.
