(ABC 6 News) -- A Rochester man was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon for his alleged involvement in a robbery.

According to Rochester Police Captain John Sherwin, a 27-year-old Rochester man told police a man he knew was following him around the Rochester Public Library.  The two were allegedly having a dispute about money, said Captain Sherwin.  When the 27-year-old left the library the other man followed, said Captain Sherwin, eventually arriving outside Fontaine Towers Apartments at 102 2nd St SE.

The 27-year-old told officers he met up with friends outside the apartment complex, and the other man approached him and tried to take a cell phone he was holding.  The phone actually belonged to a 27-year-old friend of the victim, said Captain Sherwin, and that friend was in the group of people the victim met up with.  The friend tried to get his phone back, said Captain Sherwin, and the suspect then allegedly began to assault the two men before taking off.

Rochester Police found the suspect, 28-year-old Sherman Washington of Rochester, nearby.  He was taken into custody and faces simple robbery charges.
