(ABC 6 News)--Olmsted County is a member of the Coalition for Rochester Area Housing and has been since the coalition was formed four months ago.
Now, the County is participating in more than policy. It is offering financial support.
Tuesday night, the County Housing and Redevelopment Board voted to contribute $250,000 dollars over the next two years towards affordable housing projects. Because of its financial investment, the County is now part of the coalition's leadership team.
“When we see projects come forward and we see something where there is a need, we want to collaborate our resources together to make sure we can still make it happen,” said David Dunn, the Housing Director for Olmsted County.
Between the City of Rochester, Mayo Clinic, Olmsted County and personal donations, $4.6 million dollars has been pledged to affordable housing through this initiative.
As a result, the Rochester Area Foundation is now accepting applications for "Brick and Mortar" projects.
“We are looking for immediate results,” said Steve Borchardt, the Director of Rochester Area Foundation Housing Initiative. “We are looking to get this resource on the street, producing the kind of housing we need for specialized populations as soon as possible.”
Anyone interested in submitting a project proposal can contact the Rochester Area Foundation.
