(ABC 6 News) - With the New Year comes new beginnings and for one family the year also brought a new baby.
The first 2018 baby born in Rochester was at the Olmsted Medical Center to parents Sovimouth Khay and Srey Kun Nem.

Khay Sokun Monyboramey was originally supposed to be born on January 13, but she had different plans.

Instead, she said "Hello" to the world at 1:01 a.m. New Year's Day weighing in at 6 lbs. 11 oz.
Both parents are originally from Cambodia, Where a New Year's Day baby holds a special meaning.  "According to the custom in Cambodia the first day of the New Year is a really big thing and then when the baby is born on the first day of the New Year they get every blessing from above," said Khay.

The parents already have a 2-year-old who they said was extremely excited to say hello to her new younger sister.

Both Mom and baby are doing well.
