(ABC 6 News) - Two teens are dead and several others injured after a two-car accident in Decorah, Iowa.

According to the Iowa Department of Transportation's incident report, the accident happened on County Road W40 1/2 mile south of 173rd Ave. around 8:30 a.m. Monday.

The report states that a vehicle, driven by 17-year-old Avery Arneson, was traveling northbound on W40 when it lost control, crossed the center line and was sliding sideways when it was struck by a car traveling in the southbound lane.

Avery Arneson, and her sister who was riding in the car, 13-year-old Aiden Arneson, were killed. Both were students Mabel-Canton schools in Fillmore County, MN.

"If you could pick out one thing they had in common it was their huge smiles," said Harley McCabe, a friend of Avery.

Three other siblings were injured and transported to Winneshiek Medical Center, along with the 15-year-old driver of the other car.

The Mabel-Canton School District said all after-school activities have been canceled until further notice and that staff and clergy are available to all students.

"I know when I found out about it I left class and within five minutes I had five or six girls, and we were all just comforting each other and trying to figure out what was happening," McCabe said.

The Iowa State Patrol has not said what caused the crash.]
