Rochester City Council Approves Traffic Light Change Outside Hoover Elementary

(ABC 6 News) - Monday night the Rochester City Council approved the removal and relocation of a traffic light outside Hoover Elementary School.

The Rochester Public School District said it was requested based off of safety and traffic concerns.

A district representative said they've been adding onto Hoover Elementary for their preschool and needed to address the future increase in traffic. The current traffic light is on Elton Hills Drive Northwest near the entrance, where many students cross the street.

It'll be removed and replaced with a new one down the road, at the entrance to the parking lot, on Norseman Court and Elton Hills Drive Northwest.

A parent in the school district said he could see the safety advantages of moving the stop light.

"Just the other day somebody crashed into a parked car here," parent Colin Ellis said. "A safety issue is paramount, there's nothing more important than that to a parent."

The estimated costs of the relocation haven't been reported yet, but the city said they'll split the bill in half with the school district.
