(ABC 6 News) - A local teacher is getting a financial boost... and it's one that'll help with the development of her students.

Voya Financial announced Thursday... Brenda Flynn of Jefferson Elementary in Rochester is getting a $2,000 grant through the 2017 Voya Unsung Heros program. Her teaching idea is called "Dashing to Higher Achievement" and focuses on getting materials her students need to develop, using robots called Dash and Dots.

"I felt like I had won the lottery it was just amazing and it's going to open up so many opportunities for my students and so that was just exciting I cant put it into words," says Brenda.

Flynn is now up against other finalists for the top three prizes... $5,000 $10,000 or even $25,000.
