(ABC 6 News) - Stewartville School Superintendent Belinda Selfors says things are returning to normal following an outbreak of Norovirus at Bonner Elementary.

Selfors says on Friday, January 12th, ten percent of the students at Bonner Elementary had either called in sick or were exhibiting similar symptoms and as a result, reported the situation to public health.

She says one thing the district learned is 'hand-sanitizer' does not kill the Norovirus. Instead, they encouraged vigorous and constant hand washing. She says staff spent the weekend and part of the following Monday, disinfecting the school. She says they got a bit of break because that Monday was also Martin Luther King Day and therefore no classes.

She went on to add that throughout this past week, the number of Norovirus cases have continued to decline. And after speaking with the school nurse, they've only seen a "minimal" number of flu cases.
