(ABC 6 News) - It’s a prestigious honor for a group of Austin musicians.

"The music program here at Austin high school is really top notch”, said Gene Schott, Orchestra Director at Austin high school.

It’s an audience that recognizes dedication and excellence and on Thursday the Austin High School Symphony Orchestra takes center stage.

“We will be performing for all the music educators in the state of Minnesota," Schott explained. “There are only two that were invited this year. One from St. Paul, and us.

It’s the second time in four years the AHS Orchestra has been invited to perform at the state conference.
“The kids are amazing … they work so hard, it's fun to see them mature" Gene Schott said.

“There's always more to learn, there's consistently more music coming out. You can take different interpretations of different music and you can apply that," said orchestra member and AHS junior Isabella Truong-Ferreira.

"In addition, I think the community is a staunch supporter of music in our public schools," Schott added.

“And we've worked really hard to get to where we are, and it's really cool because now at the age we are at Austin High School we're playing what I would call the real music, the real stuff that a lot of professional orchestras get to play,” orchestra member and high school junior Chloe Guttormson said.

“It's those little things we do every day,” Schott explained. “What part of the bow do we use, how much weight do we use, those kinds of things. That's what sets a good orchestra apart from a great orchestra."
