(ABC 6 NEWS) -- The Olmsted County Sheriff's Office say a Mayo Clinic employee killed his pets and tried to burn them in a Mayo Clinic incinerator.

Authorities say the man beat his dog to death with a stick and shot his cat. He then took them to the incinerator where he intended to destroy the bodies. We're told police were notified before he was able to burn the animals.

Olmsted County authorities say the killings happened in Mower County.

The Mower County Sheriff's Office tells us they have spoken to the suspect, a 61-year-old man from rural Grand Meadow. He is the only suspect in the investigation, but has not yet been arrested or charged with any crime.

ABC 6 News contacted Mayo Clinic and were given the following statement: "Mayo Clinic and the employee in question are cooperating fully with law enforcement . Due to the pending investigation, we are unable to provide additional information at this time.”
