(KSTP) - A Ramsey County judge sentenced a former social studies teacher at Olson Middle School in Minneapolis to three years of probation Friday for soliciting a minor child for sex.
Joel Fowler, 23, pleaded guilty to the felony charge in July. In addition to serving probation, Fowler is required to get sex offender treatment, have no contact with underage girls, allow any internet-capable devices to be monitored, stay away from alcohol and drugs and register as a predatory offender for a minimum of 10 years.
Fowler was arrested May 17, by St. Paul Police after police say he posted a Craigslist ad indicating that he was looking for someone younger than himself. An undercover sergeant responded to the ad posing as a 14-year-old girl, and Fowler agreed to meet up in a St. Paul park to have sex, according to the criminal complaint.
Fowler could face 15 months in prison if he violates the terms of his probation.
