(ABC 6 News) -- Austin Police are investigating a drug operation with men bringing heroin into Austin from Chicago.
Police say they believe they've disrupted part of the pipeline that's channeling some of the most addictive drugs into the city.
This week, authorities executed three search warrants in Austin at two apartments on South Main Street. They arrested three men, one from Austin and two from Chicago.
Along with heroin, marijuana, ecstasy and cocaine, they reportedly found more than $3,600 in cash. Officers also executed a search warrant at an apartment complex on the north side of town and found $10,000 in cash.
"I think there has been a resurgence of heroin, we've really been seeing it now for probably five or six years," says Captain Dave McKichan with the Austin Police Department.
"Nationwide, if you look, just Google heroin, and you'll see a lot of jurisdictions are like ours, we're struggling with it right now," he says.
Charges in the case are expected Friday.
