(ABC 6 News) -- We've seen a handful of schools in our area go green using solar energy. Now Austin High School can be added to the list.
For the last three years, a group of high schoolers have been raising money to install solar panels on the roof of the annex building. It's finally happening, $26,000 from several area businesses paid for the project.
The panels will collect enough energy to power one and a half computer labs.
"It's going to help cut down the utility bill which is great and I think it's also going to be used in the curriculum, and it's going to allow students to see a change hopefully for the better," Austin High School teacher Kate Soiney said.
Hayfield is another school that installed solar panels this summer.
