(ABC 6 News) -- Tuesday night’s primary election saw several unexpected results, including in the Freeborn County sheriff's race.

Incumbent Sheriff Bob Kindler placed second behind Kurt Freitag, who is a deputy in the department.

Freitag lead with 37 percent of the vote, compared to Kindler's 32 percent, and Freitag said he couldn't have asked for a better outcome.

“Just sitting there last night, watching the votes come in, all that hard work, meeting so many good people, organizing things, it was very rewarding,” Freitag said.

ABC 6 reached out to Sheriff Kindler on Wednesday but he was unavailable for an interview.
