(ABC 6 News) -- Tuesday's primary showed a close race between Incumbent Freeborn County Sheriff Bob Kindler and Kurt Freitag.

The two will advance and face off in the November elections. Freitag was leading the race Tuesday with 38 percent of votes. Kindler was a close second at 33 percent.

The third candidate Dale Glazier ended the evening with 29 percent of votes. You may remember, this is a closely watched race because of the controversy over the candidates. Glazier returned to work just a few weeks ago after being cleared of any wrong doing following an investigation. Sheriff Kindler put glazier on paid administrative leave the same day Glazier filed for candidacy. He says a citizen filed a complaint against Glazier and it was just a coincidence.

Freitag is a current member of the Freeborn County Sheriff's Department as a deputy. He has been a deputy sheriff for 19 years. He also has a military background with the United States Army and retired as a Sergeant First Class in 2005 after 20 years of service.

In November, he will challenge Freeborn County Sheriff Bob Kindler who took office in 2011. Kindler comes with 25 years of law enforcement experience.
