(ABC 6 News) -- Members of the Rochester Amateur Radio Club are spending the next few days tuning their skills.
The HAM radio operators have been together, in Rochester, since the 1950's. This summer's special event is taking place at the KOA Campground, and it runs until Tuesday.
HAM radio operators have a long-time history of using their skills to help provide services to their community going back to World War II.
Niel Wiegand of the Rochester Amateur Radio Club says that this skill was very useful and has a long history, "Ham Radio Operators happened to have a skill that could be used. Other people used other skills. Ham Radio Operators contributed their radio skills to that war effort."
Every year, they get together to work on their skills as radio operators and make connections with as many other radio operators as possible.
So far, they've made 75 contacts from California to Belgium.
