(ABC 6 News) - An Olmsted County Sheriff's Deputy was injured Thursday morning, when his gun accidentally fired during training in Rochester.

Authorities say Training Sergeant Jon Jacobson tried to remove a .38 caliber revolver from his back waistband when it caught on something and fired. Fortunately, Sgt. Jacobson was using "blank" ammunition at the time. But even though there was no actual "bullet", he still suffered a serious injury to his backside.

Sgt. Jacobson was taken to Saint Marys. He's was expected to be released on Friday, but may require follow up surgery.

He's a 10 year veteran of the force and has been with the Olmsted County Sheriff's Department since May of 2013.
