Slain Mendota Heights Officer to be Laid to Rest Wednesday

Mendota Heights police officer Scott Patrick will be laid to rest next Wednesday.

Patrick, a 19-year veteran of the Mendota Heights police force, was shot and killed during a traffic stop in West St. Paul on Wednesday, July 30. The suspect is 39-year-old Brian Fitch Sr., who was arrested after a shootout with police the same evening.

Patrick was the first Mendota Heights police officer to be slain in the line of duty. He leaves behind a wife and two teenage children.

Hundreds of mourning community members have rallied together to remember Patrick. A memorial has been set up at the intersection of Dodd Road and Smith Avenue in West. St. Paul, the scene of the shooting.

The funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, at St. Stephens Lutheran Church, located at 1575 Charlton St. in West St. Paul. A visitation will be held at the church from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5.
