(ABC 6 News) -- Austin Police were called to NeveIn Elementary School Wednsday night after reports of a teenager with a gun.
Witnesses said the man with the gun was arguing with some other young men.
"When they arrived it was told to them the young man had fled northbound through some of the back yard property there," Austin Police Captain Dave McKichan said.
From details provided by witnesses, police believed they knew who he was and a couple of places where he might have gone.
"The officers did go and check with one of those locations about six or seven blocks away from the school and located both the young man there and the weapon, which turned out to be a BB gun," McKichan said.
Until then, police didn't know what kind of gun it was.
"We believe all guns when they're seen in the field are real until we can determine that they're not," McKichan said.
Investigators think the 19-year-old with the gun and the other men might have been involved in a dispute within a gang.
"Even when it's determined they are not real there can be some criminal charges for possessing them on school property," McKichan said.
So far no charges have been filed.
