CLEAR LAKE, Iowa (AP) - Volunteers seeking to build a veterans memorial along the Sea Wall bordering Clear Lake say they've gathered more than 1,000 signatures.
The Mason City Globe Gazette reports the group will present the petition for the Sea Wall location to the city council.
The city's parks and recreation board has opposed the Sea Wall location. The members voted 5-1 earlier this month against the spot, saying it was too busy. They want the city council to form a task force to select a spot for the proposed memorial.
The memorial would include three, five-foot high tribute walls. The names of war veterans from Clear Lake and Ventura would be inscribed on the panels.
