(ABC 6 News) -- The deadly Ebola virus has claimed the life of a Minnesota native.
Patrick Sawyer died this week in Africa, but he had previously lived in Coon Rapids for about a decade.
In 2008, he moved back to Liberia to work for the government but his family stayed here.
His wife and daughters remember Sawyer as a passionate man who was very well-known among the large Liberian community here in Minnesota.
According to his wife, Decontee Sawyer, those that know him are shocked, "The Liberian community right now, they're shocked. The Liberian community not just in Minnesota but around the U.S."
Sawyer's wife wants the public to know that the Ebola outbreak should be everyone's concern as it could easily transmit to this side of the world.
Patrick had plans on coming back to Minnesota in August for two of his daughter's birthdays.
A memorial is being planned for Patrick here in Minnesota at the end of September.
