(ABC 6 NEWS) -- A Cerro Gordo County inmate is facing more charges after police say he attacked a corrections officer and assaulted a nurse.
The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff's Office reports Joseph Lewis Jr. of Mason City was at Mercy Medical Center Tuesday receiving care when he allegedly attacked a corrections officer.
Authorities say Lewis ran off, hitting and injuring a nurse. The officer eventually caught up with Lewis and used a taser on him.
Lewis is charged with several crimes including escape from custody and assault on a corrections officer. He was previously in jail on charges of forgery and theft.
Lewis is in custody awaiting bond.
Both the nurse and officer were treated for their injuries and released.
