ROCHESTER, Minn. The Highway 52 intersection on the south end of Cannon Falls will close on Wednesday, July 16 as crews prepare to complete construction of a new interchange, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Motorists will continue to have access to businesses on both sides of Highway 52 by using the north intersection at Goodhue County 24 Boulevard.
The work is part of a $14.3 million project that includes an interchange, frontage roads and paving. S.M. Hentges & Sons of Jordan, Minnesota, is the contractor.
The intersection closure will remove one of the traffic signals on Highway 52. Another signal remains north of the site, but will close after construction crews complete work on the interchange and access roads to serve Cannon Falls.
With this project, MnDOT is working to enhance an efficient and effective transportation system. The project is to improve safety for motorists along the corridor.
The project website is at: www.dot.state.mn.us/d6/projects/hwy52cannonfalls/index.html.
MnDOT urges motorists to follow these recommendations in work zones:
• Stay alert
• Watch for signs, equipment and workers
• Minimize distractions, such as using cell phones, eating or drinking
• Avoid tailgating
• Follow posted speed limits and directional signs
• Stay in one lane while driving through a work zone
