(ABC 6 News) -- Religious leaders are celebrating it as a monumental accomplishment for their spiritual freedom. After a 5-4 vote by the United States Supreme Court, profit-seeking businesses will now be able to avoid penalties if they disregard President Obama's health care provision to require free contraception for women under their health care plans.
This only affects closely-held businesses and not publicly-traded companies. Christian company Hobby Lobby is at the very forefront of businesses that have federal protection to uphold their religious beliefs. It's a development that experts say has not happened before.
In Southeast Minnesota, residents are divided on this contentious issue like many others nationwide. For both sides it all boils down to one thing: the definition of freedom. Religious leaders and women's rights activists focus their arguments on where their sense of liberty lies.
