Spring Grove WW II Veteran Honored Posthumously in Medals Ceremony

Lewis Meaney of Spring Grove served in the United States Navy in the Philippines during the Second World War.

70 years after his service and 17 years after his death, Meaney was honored this past weekend in St. Paul with 2 medals from the Philippines government for fighting to protect their country in a series of battles in the Pacific theater of action.

Meaney's son Ron, also of Spring Grove and two of his U.S. Navy veteran grandsons worked through the office of Senator Al Franken to secure the medals.

A ceremony was held at Franken's St. Paul office this past weekend to present the medals to Meaney's family
