Arrest Made in Gruesome Double Murder with Rochester Ties

(ABC 6 NEWS) -- Investigators have made an arrest in a gruesome double murder and authorities say at least one of the killings may have happened in Rochester.

The double murder was first reported June 5th when two suitcases, with the bodies of two women inside, were found near a road in Geneva, Wisconsin.

One of the women has been identified as 37-year-old Laura Simonson of Farmington, MN. The second woman remains unidentified. Simonson was reported missing to the Farmington Police Department on November 22, 2013 by her mother. A missing persons investigation initiated by the Farmington Police Department determined Simonson was last seen alive at the Apache Mall in Rochester on November 2, 2013.

On Wednesday, June 25th, 52-year-old Steven M. Zelich of West Allis, Wisconsin was taken into custody in connection with the investigation. Authorities raided his home and brought out numerous items in evidence bags. The ABC Affiliate in Milwaukee reports he's a former West Allis police officer.

Authorities hope somebody can help identify the other woman found in the suitcase. She is described as possibly Caucasian, between the ages of 15 and 35, 5 feet 2 to 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighing 120 to 140 pounds with long, straight dark brown or black hair. She has a pronounced overbite and crooked lower teeth, two piercings in each ear, and a quarter-size heart tattoo on the lower left abdomen/pelvic area.
