(ABC 6 NEWS) - The Winona County Sheriff's Office says a recovery mission is underway after a canoe capsized on the Mississippi River and an 88-year-old man went into the water.
It happened around 11 o'clock Friday morning in Winona near the Prairie Island Spillway. The sheriff says his office is in the process of notifying the man's family, so his name is not being released. We do know he is from Stockton, MN.
Witnesses say the man was fishing when his canoe got to close to the spillway and it capsized. The man went underwater and hasn't been seen since. Authorities believe he drowned.
