ROCHESTER, MN -- Grassroots Republicans throughout Minnesota today endorsed Jeff Johnson as their 2014 candidate for governor. In a competitive, multi-candidate contest, Johnson secured the overwhelming endorsement of the delegates to the Republican Party of Minnesota State Convention in Rochester on the fourth ballot with more than 90 percent of the vote.
“It’s time to win and lead. As the endorsed Republican candidate for governor, that’s exactly what I intend to do,” Johnson said. “I said it when I entered this race more than a year ago, and it remains true today: For Republicans to win statewide in Minnesota, we need a candidate for governor who unites all of us. Republicans from every region of Minnesota spoke loud and clear today, saying I am the candidate who can best bring us together to defeat Mark Dayton in November. I am honored and looking forward to taking our message of greater economic opportunity and personal freedom to all Minnesotans.”
Johnson is a Hennepin County commissioner and former state representative serving the western Hennepin County suburbs. His lieutenant governor running mate, Bill Kuisle, is a former state representative, county commissioner, and town board member from the Rochester area.
Johnson, Kuisle, and the entire ticket of endorsed, statewide Republican-endorsed candidates will travel the state together, beginning Monday.
