MN GOP Gubernatorial Endorsement Balloting Underway

(ABC 6 News) -- Hundreds of Republicans are gathering at the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester for the 2014 GOP Convention. Right now, the GOP gubernatorial race is underway.

Here are the latest numbers: Hennepin County Commissioner Jeff Johnson 38.7%, former House Republican Minority Leader Marty Seifert 29.5%, State Senator Dave Thompson 29.7%.

In the meantime, two Republican candidates for governor opted to head straight to the primary in August.

Businessman Scott Honour who announced his bid outside the hall this morning has chosen State Senator Karin Housley as his running mate.

Housley is serving her first term in the Minnesota Senate and is also a realtor. Senator Housley's husband, Phil, is a Hall of Fame hockey player and has coached in the NHL last season.

Former Minnesota Speaker of the House, Kurt Zellers, is another Republican who has opted to go straight to the primary in August.


And the DFL Convention is also going on this weekend in Duluth.

Many candidates like Governor Mark Dayton and Senator Al Franken are seeking re-election.

Minnesota Democrats chose to endorse State Representative Steve Simon and current Attorney General Lori Swanson. 

Also, State Auditor Rebecca Otto was endorsed today for a third term.
